Another National embarrassment!
After Sunday’s embarrassing 41-25 loss at the hands of the Green Bay Packers, many are left wondering what will happen to Matt Nagy, the Chicago Bears head coach. The teams losing streak now sits at five games after an incredible start to this 2020 season. They are now the second team in the history of the NFL to lose five straight games after a 5-1 start. The only other team to accomplish that feat was the San Francisco 49ers back in the year 1967. A few weeks ago, Nagy had given up play calling responsibilities due to the complete failures of his offense. An offense that is ranked among the worst in the league and have alternated quarterbacks Nick Foles and Mitchell Trubisky throughout the year. Nagy was first hired as an offensive guru a few years back but that seems to be the only area that the Bears cannot seem to fix, as their defense is actually a top unit in the NFL. Here is a quote from Nagy after the loss on Sunday, “Have some personal pride. Have a freaking sense of urgency” he followed that up with “Yesterday was flat out embarrassing, and our guys know it”. This isn’t a great look for the head coach after his job began to be put on the spotlight. While many coaches attempt to bring their coaching staff and players together during a losing streak, Nagy seems to be going at this much differently than many people expected. He even went so far as to call out his defense for their porous performance against future hall of famer Aaron Rodgers. As it stands right now, Chicago has never fired a head coach during the course ofa season but the way it has been going, Nagy may be the first for the Bears. Nagy had only been able to muster a 25-18 record for the team during his three seasons at the Chicago head coach and will now have the last five games to convince management to keep him around.
Unfortunately, though, this head coaching spotlight doesn’t take away from the fact that Chicago has been losing to their division rivals for far too long now. While they have so many big-time rivalry games, the team always ends up falling short of expectations, resulting in the embarrassment of Bears fans around the globe. This includes multiple blowouts in rivalry games like the 55-14 loss to the Packers back in 2014. The fans of this troubled team deserve far better than the offensive disappointment that they have gotten the past few season. This team needs to either draft or sign a true starting quarterback as well as getting consistent play calling down. They also need a far better offensive line than what they currently have right now because at the moment they have one of the worst rushing attacks in all of football. Until any of that happens, Chicago fans will remain embarrassed as their team will constantly fall to their rivals such as the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings.
